Calavera (Skull)

We bought a 65 piece Calavera set for our daughter and son-in-law on the occasion of their wedding. They loved the set, and we have followed up by ordering the accompanying glassware set. My Dad went to work for the old Oneida Limited firm when he came home from WWII. I grew up in Sherrill and will always support Liberty and its efforts.

I received this set from my husband when we were first married and I have loved them ever since. It has been about 6 years and they still look amazing. They've been through the ringer too! With 4 children and a husband, they've taken thousands of trips through the dishwasher, been tossed about, used as scrapers and screwdrivers (Much to my horror), and are still alive and looking good. A true testament to the quality. I have added to the set throughout the years and now own everything besides the serving and hostess set. I just wish they made matching espresso/dessert spoons!

The Pie Server is a very nice weight and shine. This is my first piece of the Calavera design. What I hadn't noticed until I received it, is that the skulls are oriented to face up the shaft towards the action end rather than chin-down towards your hand. So the skulls don't face you when the flatware is set out. This is a puzzling design decision. It would be easier to see the skulls as skulls if they were reversed. I can't imagine why the designers chose to obscure the skull motif in this way. I was considering buying the five piece serving set, but now will not.
