HORIZONS 2022: Sherrill Manufacturing looks for more growth in 2022

SHERRILL – Sherrill Manufacturing not only weathered COVID-19 — it found a way to grow and looks forward to the future.

Sherrill Manufacturing started in 2005 after flatware producer Oneida Limited moved its manufacturing overseas from upstate New York. Sherrill Manufacturing is the only “Made in America” flatware producer in the United States.

2021 was a year of challenges for many businesses, and Sherrill Manufacturing rose to meet those challenges and succeeded.

“Our biggest achievement [of 2021] was our factory output growing by 25% — all while working within the constraints of COVID-19 mandates,” President and Co-Founder Matthew Roberts said. “We are very proud of the team we have here at Sherrill Manufacturing.”

Roberts said Sherrill Manufacturing remained profitable in a very challenging environment, both with COIVD-19 and inflation. The co-founder said wage inflation in New York is outpacing the rest of the United States and the world. “Competition for labor is fierce, especially in New York,” Roberts said. “As business owners, there is never a dull moment when it comes to challenges. Regarding product popularity, almost all of our designs are selling very well.”

Roberts said Sherrill Manufacturing is expected to grow more in 2022, but the goal right now is to improve profitability through a more experienced workforce and the addition of more automation. “Out future goals are to continue to train the next generation of silversmiths, upgrade our production systems, and continue to push quality improvements throughout the factory.”
